How to Transfer Your Domain Away from Enom

1. Make sure that Your Domain is Transferable

To make sure your domain can be transferred, check the following:

  • The domain has been registered for at least 60 days, and has been at Enom for at least 60 days.
  • The domain contact information hasn’t been changed within 60 days.

NOTE: Some registrars prevent domain names from transferring away if the contact information associated with a domain was updated within 60 days.

2. Confirm Administrative Contact Information

The administrative contact (admin) is one of the four contacts listed in the Whois database for a registered domain. The contact information is defined by the registrant. As part of the domain transfer process, we will send a transfer-approval email message to the domain’s administrative contact listed in the Whois database. The email message contains the Transaction ID and Security Code that enable the administrative contact to approve the transfer.

NOTE: If your domain name has private registration, a service that hides your personal information from the public, you cannot verify your admin email address in the Whois database. You must contact your current registrar to cancel the private registration, and then you can update the email address, if necessary.

To update the Administrative contact at Enom

  1. Log in to the Enom Account Manager.
  2. From the Registered Domains menu, select Manage Domains.
  3. Click on the domain you want to update.
  4. From the Manage Domain menu, click Contact Information.
  5. Select Custom and enter the accurate Administrative email address.
  6. Click Save.

3. Obtain the Authorization Code

Get an authorization code (also known as an EPP code or transfer key) from your current registrar, if required. Some domain name extensions, primarily country-code top-level domain names (ccTLDs), do not require an authorization code.

To obtain the authorization code from Enom

  1. Log in to the Enom Account Manager.
  2. From the Registered Domains menu, select Manage Domains.
  3. Click on the domain you want to update.
  4. From the Manage Domain menu, click General Settings.
  5. Click Email Auth Code to Registrant.

4. Unlock Your Domain Name

By default, most domain names registered with eNom are placed under “Registrar-Lock Enabled” protection. Domain name locking prevents unauthorized transfers of your domain name. Before a domain transfer is requested, the lock must be removed and verified as status “Registrar-Lock Disabled.”

To unlock your domain name

  1. Log in to the Enom Account Manager.
  2. From the Registered Domains menu, select Manage Domains.
  3. Click on the domain name you want to unlock.
  4. Click General Settings.
  5. From Register-Lock, select Disable.
  6. Click Save.

Allow up to 24 hours for our system to recognize the status change.

5. Purchase a Cheap Domain Transfer

Purchase a domain name transfer from our website. If the extension you want to transfer is not listed, you cannot transfer the domain name to us.

6. Authorize the Domain Transfer

When you have successfully prepared your domain name to be transferred, see Transfer domain names to us for information on completing the domain name transfer with us.

Cheap Domain Transfer – Changing Admin Email Address

Admin Email Address is the key that you need to be sure before you initiate a domain transfer to us (also known as an incoming transfer), the administrative contact (admin) for your domain name must have a valid email address. If you are transfering a .au domain name to us, you must have a valid email address associated with your registrant contact information.

Having a valid admin email address is important because both registrars (your current registrar and us) use it to send you information about the transfer, such as your transfer IDs and authorization code (if required).

To Verify and Change Your Admin Email Address

  1. To verify the accuracy of your admin email address, check the Whois database.
  2. To change your admin email address, contact your current registrar.

If your domain name has private registration, a service that hides your personal information from the public, you cannot verify your admin email address in the Whois database. You must contact your current registrar to cancel the private registration, and then you can change the email address, if necessary.

If you change your admin email address at your current registrar, it can take up to 48 hours to display in the Whois database. After it displays, you can resend the transfer IDs to the updated admin email address.

Cheap Domain Transfer – What’s the difference between Account Changes and Transfers?

A domain name account change moves a domain name from one account to another, with the same registrar. A domain name transfer transfers a domain name from one registrar to another.

When to Use an Account Change

Use an account change in the following situations:

  • You want to move your domain name to another account with your current registrar. For example, you sold your domain name to someone who has an account with your current registrar.
  • You need to change the domain name contact’s email address and don’t have access to the account where the domain resides. For example, the account containing the domain name belongs to a former employee.

If you have access to the account — Initiate a domain name account change through the Domain Manager.

If you do not have access to the account — Complete the Request for Change of Account/Email Update Preparation Form.

When to Use a Transfer

Use a domain name transfer in the following situations:

  • You sold your domain name to another person who uses a different registrar.
  • You switched registrars and want to transfer your domain names to the account with them.

Transferring a domain name takes up to seven days.

Troubleshooting Domain Name Transfers to Us

When you transfer a domain name to us, problems can occur. On the Pending Transfers page in the Domain Manager, the Status and Admin Email (Registrant Email for a .au) columns provide information on how to resolve problems with your transfers. Refer to the list below to resolve problems with your incoming transfers.

If one of the following error messages displays:

  • Error: Domain locked — You must unlock your domain name at your current registrar, and then click Restart transfer now. For more information, see Domain Name Transfer FAQ
  • Error: Privacy enabled — You must cancel the privacy for your domain name at your current registrar and change your administrative contact’s (admin) email address (if necessary). If you have a .au domain name, you should update your registrar contact’s email address. Then, click Restart transfer now. For more information, see Domain Name Transfer FAQ and How do I change my admin email address at my current registrar?
  • Error: Invalid authorization code — You entered an invalid authorization code for your domain name transfer. Click Update authorization code to re-enter it. For more information, see Domain Name Transfer FAQ
  • Error: Transfer rejected — Your current registrar rejected your domain name transfer. Contact your current registrar to resolve outstanding issues, and then repurchase the transfer in your account with us.

If your domain name is stuck in No action required: Initializing status:

Normally, this status means that we are initiating your domain name transfer. However, if you registered or transferred the domain name in the past 60 days, ICANN policy says that you cannot transfer it. In this case, the Recommended Action for your transfer says, “You can only transfer domains that were last registered or transferred more than 60 days ago. We’ll re-initiate this transfer when the domain is eligible.”

A 60-day lock does not apply to .au domain names.

Your domain name will remain in this status until we can re-initiate the transfer (if it becomes eligible per ICANN policy), or until the transfer expires (30 days from purchase). If your transfer expires, contact our support team for assistance.

If you did not receive the transfer IDs required to authorize the transfer:

The Admin Email column displays the administrative contact’s (admin) email address for the domain name, as listed in the Whois database. Depending on the situation, you might need to update your admin email address, update our records, or resend the transfer IDs to your admin email address. For more information, see How do I change my admin email address at my current registrar? and How do I resend the transfer IDs to my updated admin email address?

If you have a .au domain name, we will send transfer IDs and a confirmation email to the registrant contact’s email address as it displays in the Whois database. If it is inaccurate, you should update it with your current registrar.

Registration requirements

Registration of .eu domain names is limited to individuals or companies from countries in the European Union.

Renewal restrictions

You must renew your .eu domain name by its expiration date.

If you set your domain name to auto-renew, we first attempt auto-renewal 10 days prior to the domain name’s expiration date. If the renewal attempt fails, we re-attempt renewal five days prior to the domain name’s expiration date. If the second attempt fails, we make a final attempt on the domain name’s expiration date.

For example: Your .eu domain name expires on Jan. 31. If your domain name does not renew automatically, you can renew it manually by that date. For automatic renewals, we attempt to renew the domain name on Jan. 21, Jan. 26, and Jan. 31.

Due to time zone differences, registry updates to your .eu domain name occur very early in the day. If you decide to manually renew your domain name, we recommend that you do so prior to its expiration date.

If we cannot auto-renew the domain name and you do not manually renew it by its expiration date, you can attempt to recover it, and there might be a fee to do so.

Nameserver requirements

You can use any valid nameservers with .eu domain names. However, if you want to use custom nameservers for your .eu domain name, you must use a unique IP address for each registered host name. In your account, you can enter both the nameservers and their IP addresses in the Nameservers section.

How To Move a Domain to Another LuckyRegister Account

If you want to move a domain name from one account with us to another, you’re in the right place to get started — it’s called an Account Change. If you need to move a domain name to a different registrar, see Transferring Domain Names to Another Registrar.

After you complete the following steps, we send the owner of the receiving account an email with instructions to confirm the move. The recipient must confirm the domain name move within 10 days. After that time, the transaction times out and you must reinitiate it.

A domain name must be in active status to change accounts. If a domain is in active status but past its expiration date, it will not allow the account change to be initiated. Domains that change accounts will have a 10-day transfer lock for fraud protection.

  1. Log in to your LuckyRegister – Cheap Domain Registration, Domain Hosting Services – account.
  2. Next to Domains, click Manage. How you now access the DNS manager will depend on the view of your account. Follow the steps below that apply to your account view, then continue with step 3.

    Card View

In Card View, your account will look something like this:

    • Select the domain name you want to move, click Text Icon(Settings) and selectDomain Settings.
    • Under Additional Settings, click Transfer domain to another LuckyRegister – Cheap Domain Registration, Domain Hosting Services – account.

    List View

In List View, your account will look something like this:

      • Select the domain name you want to move:

    • From the More icon, select Begin Account Change from the menu.
  3. In the Begin Account Change window, enter and re-enter the Email address of the recipient.
  4. If you know the receipient’s customer number, select I have… and then enter the account login information.

If you don’t know the new registrant’s login information, leave this field blank, and then select Enter new details.

  5. In Domain’s contact information, select one of the following:

The new registrant’s Customer # or login name might be required or optional depending on what you select here. For Enter new details, it’s optional. For all other options, it’s required. If entered, the value must match information on file in the receiving account.

    • Enter new details — Enter contact information for the new registrant.
    • Use details from specified customer account — Use contact information from the account you entered in step 6. (This won’t work until the specified customer has setup their settings page to include all necessary information.)
    • Do not change — Retain the contact information currently assigned to the domain name you’re moving.

If moving a country-code top-level domain name (ccTLD), you might have to select this option and have the new registrant contact our support department to update the contact information. For more information, see About ccTLDs (Country-Code Domain Names).

  6. Select Keep the current nameservers for this domain to retain the current nameservers for the domain name. If you don’t select this option, we park the domain name when the new registrant activates it in the new account.

Any nameserver change will bring a live site down. Additionally, the domain name loses any custom DNS when it moves to the new account.

  7. Click Next.
  8. If you selected Enter new details, complete the following, and then click Next:
    • Organization (Optional) — The organization with which the new registrant is affiliated, if any
    • I certify that the specified organization… (Optional) — Indicates you agree that the organization will be the legal registrant
    • First name and Last name — The new registrant’s first and last name
    • Address 1 and 2 — The new registrant’s street address
    • Country — The country in which the new registrant resides
    • City, State, Postal Code — The new registrant’s city, state, and ZIP code
    • Phone — The new registrant’s phone number
    • Fax (Optional) — The new registrant’s fax number

We display a list of the services that we’ll cancel after you move the domain name from your account. You can’t reverse a cancellation after you agree to the move. There will be a 10-day transfer lock after the domain is moved into a new account.

  9. Read the Domain Name Change of Registrant Agreement, and, if you agree to the terms, select I have read and agree to the Domain Name Change….

When you change the Organization or the First name or the Last name (in the absence of an Organization entry), you must agree to a 60-day lockdown to continue. If you have a .au domain name, a 60-day lock will not apply.

  10. If you want to transfer your domain name during the 60-day period, decline the Change of Registrant and transfer your domain name before updating the Organization, First name, or Last name fields. Otherwise, select I understand that, if I want to transfer this domain….
  11. Click Finish.
