Transferring Expired Domain Names? You Can still Transfer It

If your domain name has expired, you can still transfer it to another registrar during the renewal grace period.

You must complete the transfer during its grace period before the domain name falls into “redemption,” which is when the domain name begins its transfer back to the registry for someone else to register it. The length of the grace period differs by domain name extension. Most general top-level domain name extensions (gTLDs) like .com and .net have a 42-day grace period between expiration and redemption. Country-code extensions (ccTLDs) like .ca and .jp might have very different grace periods or no grace period at all.

Domains Registered Elsewhere

You should be able to transfer expired domain names to us as well, but you will need to contact your existing registrar to verify. (We offer cheap domain transfer service)

Domains Registered with LuckyRegister

For domain names within the grace period, you can transfer them to other registrars.

To Transfer Expired Domain Names

  1. Unlock the domain name.
  2. Get the domain name’s authorization code, if required.
  3. Initiate and authorize the transfer with your new registrar. Once the transfer is authorized, we notify you of the pending transfer.
  4. Accept or deny the transfer.

Once the transfer is authorized, it automatically completes within 5 days.

How to Transfer Your Domain Away from Enom

1. Make sure that Your Domain is Transferable

To make sure your domain can be transferred, check the following:

  • The domain has been registered for at least 60 days, and has been at Enom for at least 60 days.
  • The domain contact information hasn’t been changed within 60 days.

NOTE: Some registrars prevent domain names from transferring away if the contact information associated with a domain was updated within 60 days.

2. Confirm Administrative Contact Information

The administrative contact (admin) is one of the four contacts listed in the Whois database for a registered domain. The contact information is defined by the registrant. As part of the domain transfer process, we will send a transfer-approval email message to the domain’s administrative contact listed in the Whois database. The email message contains the Transaction ID and Security Code that enable the administrative contact to approve the transfer.

NOTE: If your domain name has private registration, a service that hides your personal information from the public, you cannot verify your admin email address in the Whois database. You must contact your current registrar to cancel the private registration, and then you can update the email address, if necessary.

To update the Administrative contact at Enom

  1. Log in to the Enom Account Manager.
  2. From the Registered Domains menu, select Manage Domains.
  3. Click on the domain you want to update.
  4. From the Manage Domain menu, click Contact Information.
  5. Select Custom and enter the accurate Administrative email address.
  6. Click Save.

3. Obtain the Authorization Code

Get an authorization code (also known as an EPP code or transfer key) from your current registrar, if required. Some domain name extensions, primarily country-code top-level domain names (ccTLDs), do not require an authorization code.

To obtain the authorization code from Enom

  1. Log in to the Enom Account Manager.
  2. From the Registered Domains menu, select Manage Domains.
  3. Click on the domain you want to update.
  4. From the Manage Domain menu, click General Settings.
  5. Click Email Auth Code to Registrant.

4. Unlock Your Domain Name

By default, most domain names registered with eNom are placed under “Registrar-Lock Enabled” protection. Domain name locking prevents unauthorized transfers of your domain name. Before a domain transfer is requested, the lock must be removed and verified as status “Registrar-Lock Disabled.”

To unlock your domain name

  1. Log in to the Enom Account Manager.
  2. From the Registered Domains menu, select Manage Domains.
  3. Click on the domain name you want to unlock.
  4. Click General Settings.
  5. From Register-Lock, select Disable.
  6. Click Save.

Allow up to 24 hours for our system to recognize the status change.

5. Purchase a Cheap Domain Transfer

Purchase a domain name transfer from our website. If the extension you want to transfer is not listed, you cannot transfer the domain name to us.

6. Authorize the Domain Transfer

When you have successfully prepared your domain name to be transferred, see Transfer domain names to us for information on completing the domain name transfer with us.

Cheap Domain Transfer – Changing Admin Email Address

Admin Email Address is the key that you need to be sure before you initiate a domain transfer to us (also known as an incoming transfer), the administrative contact (admin) for your domain name must have a valid email address. If you are transfering a .au domain name to us, you must have a valid email address associated with your registrant contact information.

Having a valid admin email address is important because both registrars (your current registrar and us) use it to send you information about the transfer, such as your transfer IDs and authorization code (if required).

To Verify and Change Your Admin Email Address

  1. To verify the accuracy of your admin email address, check the Whois database.
  2. To change your admin email address, contact your current registrar.

If your domain name has private registration, a service that hides your personal information from the public, you cannot verify your admin email address in the Whois database. You must contact your current registrar to cancel the private registration, and then you can change the email address, if necessary.

If you change your admin email address at your current registrar, it can take up to 48 hours to display in the Whois database. After it displays, you can resend the transfer IDs to the updated admin email address.
